Italian Beginners · Week 1A · Lesson 3
We are learning to count to twenty and to say how old we are.
Play, students echo twice. Press E to show the English.
Quanti anni hai?
How old are you?
Students say it before you press E.
Ho sedici anni.
I am sixteen.
Students say it before you press E.
E tu, quanti anni hai?
And you, how old are you?
Students say it before you press E.
Italian uses avere (to have) for age: ho sedici anni = I am sixteen.
Learn the three forms you need now: ho, hai, ha.
| io | ho | I have |
| tu | hai | you have |
| lui · lei · Lei | ha | he · she has, you have (polite) |
Ho quindici anni. · I am fifteen.
Quanti anni hai? · How old are you?
Mia sorella ha dodici anni. · My sister is twelve.
Count round the group; anyone who says a multiple of three claps instead.
Write the number you hear: teacher says, students write in digits.
Note: Italian says “I have sixteen years” (ho sedici anni). We meet the verb avere properly in Week 3.
