Culture Corner: Thanking neighbours and expressing favours with ~てくださって
In Japan, maintaining good relations with next-door neighbours (となり) is an important part of daily life. When a neighbour helps out, such as looking after a pet during the holidays, people express gratitude with polite language. In the listening text, the woman says せわをしてくださって、ありがとうございました (Thank you for kindly looking after my cats). Adding くださる to the て-form shows respect and acknowledges that the other person did a kind favour for the speaker.
