Italian Continuers · Week 1A · Lesson 1
We are learning to introduce ourselves in more depth and to read a short personal text closely.
Play, students echo twice. Press E to show the English.
Sono nata a Sydney, ma i miei nonni sono di Palermo.
I was born in Sydney, but my grandparents are from Palermo.
Students say it before you press E.
Sono una ragazza tranquilla e un po' timida.
I am a quiet and slightly shy girl.
Students say it before you press E.
Nascere (to be born) forms its past with essere, so the ending agrees with the person: sono nato (boy), sono nata (girl), siamo nati (we).
Mi piace + one thing or a verb; mi piacciono + more than one thing.
| io (boy) · io (girl) | sono nato · sono nata |
| lui · lei | è nato · è nata |
| noi | siamo nati · siamo nate |
| mi piace | il disegno, disegnare |
| mi piacciono | il disegno e la musica |
Mia madre è nata a Lecce. · My mother was born in Lecce.
Mi piacciono i film italiani. · I like Italian films.
Each student gives five facts; the group asks one follow-up question each.
Board: the difference between sono nato (I was born) and sono (I am).
Read Luca's text aloud together after the questions.
